About me, Sophia Taylor
As an artist I have a particular interest within fine art, I most commonly am drawn towards producing highly detailed illustrations of people. Since a child, I have always enjoyed the illustration aspect of art, year by year my skills have been slowly yet effectively developing along with my passion.
Drawing people intrigues me as the variety of unique facial expressions, proportions and features of an individual enables me to form different outcomes that suggest and portray a range of stories and emotions. I find drawing therapeutic as it is an escape mechanism I use to feel at ease and relieve stress.
I also have a keen interest within photography because it enables me to capture a specific moment in time and cherish it from years to come. I like how certain angles, compositions and environments can transform an ordinary photograph and make it much more meaningful and eye catching.
In five years from now I hope to become an interior designer or an art teacher, I believe my skills within art would be beneficial for this particular job role. I also hope to pursue my passion for fine art and hopefully sell my pieces of artwork on the side to possible interested purchasers.
I decided to base my project around nature, I felt this was an efficient area that represents time because we are surrounded by forever changing natural environments. I captured photographs from a wide range of locations to represent the different time elements of nature, the majority of my photographs are taken within Florida, France, Brighton and locally.

Photo Shoots.
These three photographs were taken in both Florida and Brighton, I focused on capturing the different birds within the two separate locations to demonstrate how specific environments can influence the type of animals that live there, such as Florida is most commonly known for pelicans where as Brighton is known for Seagulls. This links to 'time' as these are the breed of birds which are seen within these locations whereas in years to come the climate change within nature can alter the birds habitats making them move to another location and being apart of the history of the beach.
i enhanced the hue and saturation of my photographs so that the skies would appear more pigmented and eye catching, I also re-touched areas to make small unwanted speckles disappear so that he photographs appear more professional, such as specks in the sky.

This photo shoot is a representative of how humans have combined man made objects within natural environments, to portray this I photographed the beach of Brighton as it consists of multiple fair ground rides and small boutique's.
I captured the photographs from different perspectives to create a realistic view on the beach to link back to time as it shows how humans can alter the naturalistic aspect of locations over the years. I used the iPhone 7 plus for all three of these photographs, I edited the third photograph by using a setting on the iPhone named 'long exposure', this allowed the movement of the merry go round to be captured by blurring it out in the direction of the moving ride. This was inspired by the photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson as he combines moving objects and stillness within the same photograph by incorporating a slow shutter speed. |
My intention was to capture a variety of professional photographs as a representative of nature. I felt this was a particular topic that effectively links to time, this is due to the ever changing environment and evolution of the world through the impact of humans and climate change.
I wanted to capture professional photographs which displayed a range of organic textures such as grass, shells and sand to easily interpret my theme of nature. To do so I felt visiting different countries and photographing the locations would be the most efficient way.
I was widely influenced by the two photographers Henri Cartier-bresson, he specialises in capturing a specific moment in time which is a combination of nature and man made objects. I also was inspired by the photographer Sarah Alsayegh by how effectively she captures a variety of locations and uses a variety of tones within sunsets and clouds to form different atmospheres for a photograph. Due to this the majority of my photograph consists of a range of summery colours which has been achieved through sunsets and different settings, along with the help of adjusting and enhancing the colour of my photographs on Photoshop.
I sharpened the majority of my photographs on Photoshop so they appeared a higher quality to allow the details within them such as textures become more defined. I also cropped my photos and enhanced the colour balances so that the alignment of the objects would become more central and pigmented. I repeatedly used a neutral camera angle as I felt this creates the most realistic approach for my photograph and helps the naturalistic approach stand out.

My Youtube video.
For my thirty second video I wanted to show my ability to capture different angles to form an effective video that represents nature, to do so I visited Brightons shore. I recorded short snippets of brighton's shore waves and surroundings. I edited the individual small videos on photoshop, such as applying slow motion so that the movement of the water from the waves to become aesthetically pleasing. I also incorporated a zoom and reverse technique which enabled me to produce an effective technical transitions that made the video flow and appear professional.
I found some areas of producing the video difficult such as incorporating an audio background from YouTube this was hard because it was difficult to find a site which allowed me to convert the YouTube video into an MP3 file, along with finding a clip which was suitable for copyright. To improve my video I believe that I could have videoed all the beached I visited during my journeys. I feel that incorporating all of the beaches would more effectively enable the video to link to my previous photographs and would also make the video more intriguing. |
