BCA LEVEL 3

Throughout the years of trying new styles of art, I have learnt that I very much enjoy photography and fine art. I really enjoy photography because I love how you are able to capture something so quickly in the perfect moment and the reason why I love fine art is because it gives me a chance to put my creative mind onto paper. What I also really love about fine art is how you can add so much detail into your illustrations to create something so different. In a few years time, I hope to see myself as either a makeup artist or an interior designer. One of my biggest dreams in life is to have my own makeup brand that people love and enjoy wearing.
SCANS
My idea for this project was to mainly focus on how people and their lifestyles have changed over time.
These my chosen scanned images, with a file size of 863 KB. I decided to save the images as a JPEG file because the file can be reduced and compressed which makes the file format suitable for transferring images over the internet because it consumes less bandwidth. A JPEG image can be compressed down to 5% of its original size.
At the start of my project, I first looked at how eye makeup changed over time starting from the 1900's all the way to today. In my opinion, I believe there has been a big change in society and the reason why these scans link to my project is the equipment I used for my first shoot. To edit the scans, I used a software called Photoshop, which enabled me to make the scans look more professional and eye catching. For the first scan, I had to rotate the image 90 degrees so that it was easier to see. I then had to sharpen the scan due to there being a slight blur to the image. From this, I changed the levels and vibrancy of the scan to make the brushes standout a lot more due to them looking quite dull. Next I adjusted the auto-tone, contrast and colour of the scan. I did not want the background and the brushes to merge together, so I decided to make the background a lot more lighter than the brushes. I personally think this worked really well because it made the brushes stand out.
Once I had completed all of this, I then moved onto editing scan two. Again, I had to rotate the image 90 degrees so that it was easier to see, where I then cropped the scan as there was too much background space which made the scans look less-eye catching. I further adjusted the brightness due to the image being very bright and not very clean. Finally, I got the patch tool and patched in where the were fingerprint marks.
One thing I really liked about scanning the objects was that I was able to get a solid background for my objects, and also the lighting was very clear, making the image look more professional. However, one thing I disliked about scanning was I was not able to move around the objects as much, and how on some of the scans the corners of the images were blurry. However, I was able to get rid of this blur very quickly using a couple of tools in Photoshop. Although, the intellectual property of the Benefit logo is feature in my chose scans. I am able to get avoid any potential copyright issues due to not actually publishing the images onto the internet. Also, I can avoid any ethical problems because I have not edited anyone on my scans.
Overall, I am very happy with my final chosen scans. I think they look very well together and you are able to see the clear link between the two. One thing I would like to carry on practitioner is scanning objects and adding different effects onto them, such as scanning them in black and white instead of colour.

VIDEO
For my final video, I decided to focus on how makeup has changed over the years, specifically on how modern makeup is used and seen in society through films and advertisements.
I used a Iphone 8 Plus to make my final video, where I was able to crop and rotate the original clips. Due to not having a tripod I had to film the video by hand however I was a little shaky when filming which made the video a bit shaky. One advantage is that is not very noticeable due to the video only being 18 seconds long. If I was to record this film again I would have like to use a digital camera so that the quality was as clear as possible. Despite this, I believe that I was still able to make a professional-looking video, and I am very happy with the edits I made as a whole to the video.
To create the video I first started of by filming it and then downloading it onto a program called imovie. The reason why I decided to use imovie instead of premier pro was because I was more familiar with it and how to edit videos. After I had added the videos onto imovie I then had to crop them a bit more due to them still being to long. After I cropped the videos I then muted them all because I did not want there to be there any background noise. Next I added in either a fade or a dissolve into the end of each clip so that it would fade nicely into the next clip. I also added in some modern music for the background however I did have to slow it down as it was to fast for the video. Lastly needed to add it onto the class website called Weebly. I had to save the video and then add it onto YouTube but as a unlisted video which means that people can only see it if I share the link with them and then I had to copy the link and add it into the group website.

Here are my four chosen images to represent my project's theme of how human lifestyle has changed over time. With human life style changing every second I wanted to capture the difference between 1900's all the way to today. In these shoots, I was able to convey how lifestyle has improved in so many different ways from how it used to be in the 1900's . For example I was able to show how makeup has become much more of a bigger thing than it used to be. I was also able to show how fashion has changed such as clothing and accessorize. With my chosen images I am able to get avoid any potential copyright issues due to not actually publishing the images onto the internet. Also I can avoid any ethical problems because I have not edited my model I only edited the hats which did not belong to the model.

For this shoot my idea was to present how hats have changed from the 1900's all the way to today and in my opinion I think my shoot captured this very well. I was able to present each year with a different style of hat. Unfortunately I was unavailable to download all of the photos onto the class website as the file size was to large however I was able to upload my favorite photos. In my opinion I think that older people would understand the concept of my project a bit more than children due to adults knowing a bit more about history and lifestyle. Through out my shoot I did come across some limitations but there also was a few strengths within the shoot. My first limitation was the dark background merged in with one of the dark coloured hats so that's why I had to apply a filter onto the image. Another limitation I had was the SD card got full up so I had to clear and restart the shoot so the lighting was a little different however we did use light boxes so it did not effect the images massively. One strength about the shoot was I was able to use a digital camera which made the quality of the images a lot more clearer than the camera I used in the first shoot. Another strength I had was I was able to use the drama studio for this shoot so I had lots of space to work in and also the studio has a very dark background which worked very well with my shoot.

During the shoot I did not use a certain technique however when it came to editing the images on Photoshop I used a range of tools and techniques. For all the images I cropped away the background as it was not needed and I also sharpened each image using the sharping tool to make the quality of the images even better. For some of my images I adjusted the brightness of the images as the background was to dark and the hats faded in with its by brightening the images it made the hats more visual able. Also for some of the images I added a filter onto the image to experiment with Photoshop and I think it worked really well because it gave the image a sense of uniqueness. Lastly on a few of the images I adjusted the hue and saturation to make the colours lighter which made the images standout more. Overall the best technique that worked for me on Photoshop was the brightness and contrast tool tool because I was working with a dark background and it gave me the chance to select just my model and make her brighter and leave the background dark as possible.

Overall, I am very happy and proud of my final photos. I am very pleased to say that I don't have to worry about any copyright issue or ethical issues because all the images I used I captured personally. One tip I would give to my self is to carry on practicing taking photos and trying not to have to use a editing software as much. By taking more photos than you actually need gives you a wider selection to pick from when editing your shoots.
