Shannon Rigg - In a few years, I can see myself producing refined and best of my ability work, where I'd hopefully be able to perfect my techniques to a high standard. I would like to possibly make a dream of mine come true, having some of my painting and photographic work displayed in galleries all over the country.
Being able to share my work and get interpretations from others is the most important thing to me, and being able to show the difference in opinion over a singular piece of work and what is conveyed can be very interesting, as everyone views things differently.
I'm a portrait artist and enjoy taking photos of individuals and groups of people to portray a certain message about how different types of people and age groups spend their time. This can be very interesting because different ages and different walks of life determine how you enjoy spending your time differently and what you prioritise on a daily basis; From my work you can see that the younger, worry free and curious generation of children that I've shown in the photo-shoots of my younger siblings appear to be more inclined to spend their ageing time playing, laughing, and enjoying themselves in a range of practical, more engaging activities, rather than work or worrying over day to day errands and responsibilities that they do not have many of.
Compared to my photo-shoots of adult life and older generations, where the majority tend to spend their time productively to get the necessities to get by with work and living in a more boring way; They don't enjoy their time as much as the younger generation because they have a lot of stresses that change the way they manage their precious and decreasing time .

These are my chosen images ... they relate to my theme of time because they show a clear representation of the youth and how they spend their time in this day and age and I've shown a variety of situations and activities they participated in through my shoots. I edited them by using the software already embedded in my phones camera, this gave me the effect i wanted and also gave me lots of options to increase and decrease lots of elements such as light, contrast and exposure. there was some common faults like the blur and lack of clarity in my photos which i fixed by retaking the photos from a steadier position to keep the focus. this website could be important because it is a representation of our ability and style as artists and photographers and could be a great tool when applying for jobs or universities to add as part of our portfolio of work to present to show them why we could be a good candidate for the position. i manipulated these images this way because i thought they gave the images effects that further helped to convey the message i was trying to achieve through my work. for example the manipulation of the contrast and brightness helped to make the images appear more joyful, full of energy and happy memories situations. i used the rule of thirds technique because it allowed me to position the models and objects where i wished for the photos to get the desired effect i needed for my project. i faced some legal/ethical issues when performing my shoots because they were mainly shot in very busy public places so sometimes it was difficult to find a time when members of the public wernt in the background or around the photos as sometimes people can disagree or not want to be involved or have themselves included in a picture they don't know about even though technically there isn't a law against it but i had to be aware and careful that didn't happen anyway to save conflict in opinion. the health and safety precautions i had to take were had to ensure my camera and the place i was shooting was safe and not in an area where it could become a potential hazard to me or anyone else. i enjoyed taking the photos in outside settings as i think the use of natural sunlight and enjoyment of working outside is very good. next time i could improve on my angles and how i get different perspectives on each photograph and perhaps looking into how i could use photoshop or other editing softwares to draw/design over the top of my photos to enhance or represent further ideas or thinking points/graphics.
